I have to rely on both cash, and SNAP for my food purchases. This does not include going to a restaurant. For those purchases, I use my discretionary spending. When I buy food, I will spend my SNAP benefits before I rely on cash. If I have cash at the end of the month, that just goes into my cash fund.

With regards to food, I typically go to Shop n Save. A friend of mine takes me there, and I will compensate her for the wear on the car, and her time. This is done again through my discretionary spending. I try to buy enough food for a month, or more. This makes it much easier to go to the store I want to go to, and get the groceries I want without having to juggle around with buses and getting multiple bags on the bus.
